Frank Rig

Model from ETC faculty at Carnegie Mellon University for Technical Character Animation course.

I had to fix the model first because of its topology and maintain its initial silhouette. This process helped me understand the importance of a clean topology. Once the topology was fixed and the anatomy was confirmed by the faculty, I started rigging it.

Frank is a bipedal character and it needed the FK/IK switch for arms. I added a functionality in leg which helps the animator save the job of knee controller. Animator can turn this functionality on/off.

Duration: June 2020 - July 2020

Tools: Maya 2019

Got the reviews from the faculty and couple of animator classmates and fixed the rig based on their comments.

In the above video, you can see the final deliverable. It has the following functionalities.

- FK/IK switch

- Space switching

- Corrective blendshapes for knees, elbows and shoulders to maintain the anatomy.

This model is currently used in the Technical Character Animation course.
